This artist book is a metaphysical inquiry into the phenomenology of ghosts, and presents a critique of death and dying culture in America. The project looks at how the public landscapes of rural cemeteries and waterfalls in Western New York physically embody these inquiries. Original photographs from garden cemeteries are paired with images of frozen waterfalls. The text is long-form poetry with academic research at its core. he text also functions as a research-based indigenous land acknowledgement of these traditional Hodinöhsö:ni’ & Seneca lands, offering a colonial critique.
Set in an ornate typeface, historic text from settlers in the Alfred, NY area describe the locations of family graveyards. Photographs of gravestones on vellum overlap overlap the text, offering a physical embodiment of the ethereal boundaries explored in the text.
