Black Sundae

Black Sundae, 2012

Live performance at Gridley Chapel at the Wassaic Project, Wassaic, New York. In collaboration with Los Angeles artist Cathy Fairbanks.

The religious items from the church (Bibles, vestments, etc.) have all been removed for the performance.

Fairbanks, as The Snowman, presents a spoken liturgy about the ephemeral.

McKinley, as the Priestess, silently makes an ice cream sundae in the pulpit with organ accompaniment. She climbs up on the altar and eats the sundae from a large crystal bowl, watching the audience.

Photographs by Jeff Barnett-Winsby and Carly Gaebe.
