Lustrous Descent
Solo exhibition at Turley Gallery, Hudson
July 19-Sept. 1, 2024
My practice begins with contemplative time spent in caves and streams. I’m especially interested in the relationships between the ethereal and visceral qualities of these wilderness sites. I use multiple materials and processes to interpret the phenomena I witness there, especially through sculptural photography, carved salt with blown glass, and neon. My installation of sculptural works is located in the Light Well at Turley, which could be described variously as an inner sanctum, a jewelbox, a grotto, an architectural anomaly inside the gallery. I envisioned this space as a portal into the otherworldly and under-worldly pleasures of the elements in salt, glass, froth, gloop, and light; offering a new perception of underworld descent.
